What is a traffic exchange?

A traffic exchange is a website where members view each other’s pages in return for having their own pages shown to others. You surf a rotation of sites; for every few you look at, one of yours is displayed to somebody else. It is one of the oldest and cheapest ways to get eyes on a web page.

How the trade works

You earn a credit by viewing another member’s site for a set number of seconds — usually somewhere between 5 and 20. You spend those credits to put your own page into the rotation. The surf ratio (how many pages you view to earn one visit to yours) is the exchange’s core setting. Most exchanges also sell credits for cash, which is how they keep the lights on.
